The Russian Museum traditionally takes part in creative educational projects organised by the Friends of St. Petersburg under the auspices of PJSC Gazprom. Such initiatives are dedicated to the preservation of national heritage. One of them is a series of training events for restoration students in the workshops of the Russian Museum.
Oil painting, gilded carving, stone and plaster sculpture — students learn to work with various materials from professionals. This is not only theoretical knowledge and familiarisation with the life of the museum, but also real restoration practice. The uniqueness of the project is in the transfer of skills directly from the hands of experienced restorers, learning by the example of museum exhibits and expanding knowledge in the process of learning.
What kind of students are interested in restoration? Do trainees need special skills?
What becomes the object of the internship and what kind of restoration work do students do?
What is the potential of the programme? What are the prospects for museums and students?
