Roundtable

There is a growing expectation for museums — both large and small — to deliver dynamic exhibition programmes. Yet in reality, many institutions lack available space, in-house architects, or budgets for such complex organizational and technical processes. These limitations constrain possibilities, particularly in regional areas where each exhibition demands maximum effort from small teams.
To meet this challenge, architects and exhibition designers develop versatile solutions: modular systems and adaptable techniques that can be easily customized for different formats. The concept centres on creating flexible frameworks that allow exhibitions to be assembled like building blocks — quickly, efficiently, and without compromising quality. This approach not only simplifies exhibition production but also enables museums to operate contemporarily, regardless of scale or budget constraints.

  • How can museums develop exhibition design without in-house designers or architects?
  • How and where can museum staff professionally develop to create modern exhibition designs?
  • How can the professional community of museum architects and designers contribute to adaptive exhibition design solutions?
