Practicum

Audio description (AD, also known as tiflocommentary or audiodescription) is a concise verbal explanation of objects, spaces, or actions that are unclear to blind or visually impaired visitors without special narration. This technique helps museums build meaningful dialogue with visitors who have health-related accessibility needs. The task for museum professionals is to create a holistic image of the exhibition space and artifacts through familiar images and associations.

Workshop Block offers an opportunity to practice live, "on-the-spot" audio description techniques within the exhibition "This is Museum 2.0" and receive feedback from experts and members of the blind community.

Workshop format:
Small group work guided by an audio describer and an expert from the blind community
Hands-on practice in the exhibition space
Analysis and discussion of challenges with experienced professionals

Outcomes of the Workshop Block:
Practical experience interacting with blind visitors
Initial experience in accessible and expressive description
Immediate feedback from experts

Program Day: Second Day (May 22)
