Panel discussion

Interest in Global South art continues to grow steadily worldwide. Sotheby’s auction house now dedicates special sales to African art. Leading online platforms report sales growth by hundreds of percentage points. Pavilions representing Global South countries receive increasing attention in Venice and other biennales, while Russia prepares to open a federal museum dedicated to building a comprehensive collection of Southern Hemisphere art.

How does engaging with Global South art broaden perspectives for art professionals and connoisseurs?
Is it appropriate to generalize under one term the art of such diverse regions as South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia? What unique characteristics define each region?

Moderator:
Natalia Vikhreva, Head and Curator of Global South Art, Russian Art Gallery, Latin American Art Specialist
